Social Media Policy

The Winthrop Public Library & Museum uses social media primarily to inform Library patrons about Library and community programs, events, services, and resources, and to encourage communication between staff and patrons on these and other library-related topics.

Social media pages, which are officially authorized and maintained by the Library, allow the Library to connect to patrons and the community and perhaps to reach a wider audience, including potential new patrons. The Library invites all to post on the Library pages, however the Library reserves the right to remove in whole or in part, postings which the Library deems inappropriate.

Posting that may be disallowed are:

Advertisements
Spam
Off-topic commentary
Obscene, pornographic, or graphically-violent material
Disparaging, harassing, abusive, profane, offensive, hateful or threatening content
Discriminatory comments
Sexual harassment
Violations, or potential violations, of local, state or federal laws, including, but not limited to copyright and other intellectual property laws
Promotion of illegal activities
Other activities not yet identified here

By posting on Library sponsored sites, users grant the Library permission to use the content without compensation or liability. Users should have no expectation of privacy in the postings they make. Finally, the Library is not responsible for any third-party content posted to Library sites. Such postings do not reflect the views of the Library, its employees, or Board of Trustees.
